DAMAN
Daman provides breathtaking views of the Himalayas-from
Dhaulagiri in the far west to Everest in the east. It is
situated 50
kilometers southwest from Kathmandu at an altitude of about
2400 meters.
POKHARA
Pokhara, 200 kilometers from Kathmandu, is a rare
combination or the long array of snow-clad peaks, crystal
clear lakes, turbulent rivers with deep gorges and
picturesque villages inhabited by simple and friendly ethnic
people. This area is the starting point for treks in the
Annapurna and Dhauligiri areas.
LUMBINI
Lumbini, the birth place of lord Buddha-the apostle of peace
and non violence, is situated 306 kilometres southwest of
Kathmandu. The Lumbini garden complex has a stone pillar
commemorating the visit of Emperor Ashoka around 250 BC.
ROYAL CHITWAN NATIONAL PARK (RAPTI VALLEY)
Royal Chitwan National Park is a large
area of low, heavily forested hills bordering India in the a
heaven for wildlife, the lordly tiger, lumbering one horned
rhino, leopard, varieties of deer, wild bear and some 400
species of birds. In December each year, visitors to Chitwan
may view a game of elephant polo. The
park is situated 162 kilometers south of Kathmandu.
NAMCHEBAZAR
The name of Namche Bazaar is generally associated with that
of Sagarmatha (Mt. Everest), the highest peak in the world.
It is the entrance to the Everest region, situated on the
lap of Khumbu Himal range. Namche Bazar is about 241
Northeast of Kathmandu, a distance that is generally within
15 days of moderately strenuous trekking. It is also the
home of the legendary Sherpas. One can fly from Kathmandu to
Lukla and
Syangboche in the Everest region and trek to the Everest
Base Camp. |
